The Use of Natural Language Processing in Literature Reviews
Axtria investigates the utility of Natural Language Processing (NLP) in health economics and outcomes research literature reviews, offering insights into benefits, drawbacks, and recommendations for future research, ultimately enhancing efficiency and reducing biases in the exploration of medical literature.
Literature reviews are crucial in health economics and outcomes research but are often limited by time, human error, and biases. Natural language processing (NLP) can help address these issues. Axtria reviewed the use of NLP in literature reviews, assessed its benefits and drawbacks, conducted its own test case, and made recommendations for future research. Axtria searched medical literature databases like PubMed, Science Direct, Google Scholar, conference abstracts, and other gray literature to identify NLP use cases in literature reviews. Relevant studies were summarized, and NLP was implemented for screening. Systematic literature review experts were consulted on integrating NLP into established processes. In life sciences, literature reviews provide essential insights for researchers and pharmaceutical companies, guiding them on unmet patient needs and market conditions.
